The Walters Family

Hello

Meet the Founders

Chanelle and Brandon are the husband-and-wife team behind Lux Sucre Bakery + Cafe. Chanelle’s background in TV production and love for design led her to discover a passion for baking, while Brandon brought years of small business experience from working in his brother’s photo lab.

They opened Lux Sucre in 2016, just weeks after their wedding, and have grown it from a tiny cake studio into a full-service bakery and café. Now with their young daughter, Eleanor, by their side, Chanelle leads creative and product development while Brandon manages client communications and operations—building a business fueled by hustle, heart, and a whole lot of butter.

our Story

Lux Sucre was born from a love of entertaining, an eye for design, and a completely unexpected detour from the world of television.

Founder Chanelle moved to Portland after leaving a career in TV production in Los Angeles, craving a life closer to her hometown of Longview, Washington—but still vibrant with creativity. Though she hadn’t grown up baking, she had always been a maker: drawn to crafts, decor, and throwing a fabulous party.

When her best friend was getting married, Chanelle created an over-the-top dessert table for the bridal shower—lavishly inspired by Marie Antoinette. A few compliments and curious questions from guests (“Do you do this for a living?”) sparked an idea that wouldn’t quit.

She enrolled in culinary school, worked overnight shifts at a hotel to support herself, and started building her brand from scratch. What began as a referral-based side hustle grew into a full-fledged obsession. After a burnout-fueled exit from her job as a grocery store cake decorator, Chanelle took a leap—signing up for every bridal show she could find and booking more weddings than she could manage alone. Her then-boyfriend (now husband), Brandon, jumped in—rolling cake pops, washing dishes, and delivering cakes.

In 2016, they opened their first brick-and-mortar location in Charbonneau, a quaint neighborhood in Wilsonville, Oregon. The shop was just 569 square feet. They got married in May and opened the shop in June—with their wedding linens serving as the bakery’s first window curtains.

The journey was anything but easy. They wore every hat, baked through sleepless nights, and juggled more than most would dare. When the pandemic hit, they pivoted—launching breakfast boxes, delivering Easter kits, Mother's Day brunch boxes, and surviving supply shortages, all while watching their wedding business vanish overnight.

They made it through a brutal 2021 season and knew something had to change. In 2022, they moved into a new, larger space in the same building—the former neighborhood minimart. Construction began, and just as the dust was settling, their daughter Ellie arrived. She took her first steps in the bakery.

Today, Lux Sucre Bakery + Cafe is a full-service café, coffee bar, and pastry haven, offering everything from wedding cakes and croissants to sandwiches, soups, mimosas, and more. The team has grown from two sleep-deprived dreamers to 21 passionate staff members. Chanelle and Brandon still run the business together with heart, humor, and big plans ahead.

Their goal? To open multiple locations across the Pacific Northwest, in neighborhoods just like Charbonneau—where community matters, and every guest is treated like family.

Lux Sucre has survived ice storms, wildfires, a break-in, and a whole lot of life. They've won awards, built a brand with grit and grace, and continue to chase a vision that started with a single dessert table and a dream.
